Connor Lovat-Fraser - Boys Night Out

June 24, 2005

Tell me a little bit about your new album coming out called Trainwreck.

I can honestly say it's the first thing I've ever been a part of that I'm very proud of. I've been in bands for over 10 years and never have I been so happy to be a part of something. It's based on a story that Jeff wrote. I took it from there with lyrics. We had the most amazing time recording it with our producer Machine. We're all super stoked.

Is it like a concept album?

Yeah, I shy away from the term concept record simply because it's sort of got evil connotations now. Kids hear that and they're like "oh, one of those." Yes, it is.

Concept albums aren't a bad thing.

More than anything though, most of the music we listen to is '60s and '70s rock. You listen to those records and they're full albums. They're meant to be listened to from front to back and that's more of what we were going for. Something you can listen to from front to back and it all gels together.

You guys have "Medicating" and "Composing" on Pure Volume. You guys did a video shoot.

Yes, yes we did for "Medicating". It was amazing. We got a bunch of our friends to come out and wear hospital gowns and Dave our merchandise guy played the main character and it was just all friends hanging out. How could we complain? It was so much fun. We're very into that. We're a very tight knit group and we like all of our friends to be a part of everything we do.

You guys are on the Warped Tour. How did you guys get hooked up for that?

That's a good question. I have no idea. We played a few weeks last year and then we were recording the new record. We got a call saying we were on all of Warped. We were like "cool, we'll be there." Awesome.

How has it been so far?

So far it's been amazing. It's Warped Tour. There are tons of kids everywhere. It's like summer camp. Just hang out and have a good time and forget about responsibilities for a couple of months. No complaints.

You guys had a pretty good crowd there for your show.

It was good. The thing with us is we don't happen to have massive crowds but the kids that are there are into it. It's been like love or hate with us. That's cool. We're all right with that.

Love me or hate me. Hopefully love me.

Ah, we'll see how it goes.

What are you guys doing after the Warped Tour wraps up?

After Warped we have a couple of weeks off and then in September, I believe it's mid-September, we're doing the Nintendo something or other tour with Motion City Soundtrack, Fallout Boy, and The Starting Line.

Some of the guys on this tour.

Yeah, I believe it's been dubbed the Acronym Tour. I think all those bands go by TSL, FOB, BNO, and MCS. We'll see.
