Robert: Yeah, and people who used to be in other bands before this band too. We've just got a bunch of different bands on the side as well. Maybe the Stockholm scene can be a little bit like that. We've been playing since 1994 and this is the sixth record, hard word to say. We've got a bunch of singles out and I think it's the sixth time we've been to America as well. It's our second time to Dallas only.
So you guys don't come and see us very often.
Nicke: We've got other stuff to go to as well. We've got Europe and Australia and Japan.
Robert: We've been to America more times than Australia and Japan.
Nicke: We've spent most of the time in Europe.
Well, the music scene is probably a lot better in Europe too.
Robert: I think it's basically just whenever we get an offer to go somewhere.
Nicke: And if we don't lose shit loads of money.
Money seems to be a big thing.
Robert: The record is out on Universal in the rest of the world except in the States.
Why is that?
Robert: I don't know. Ask the American Universal people. I don't know. I guess it's not maybe commercial enough or something. I don't know. Which I think it is.
Nicke: We're not hip enough.
You unhip guys.
Robert: We're on Liquor And Poker now these days and the other records before this one is out on Sup Pop and Gearhead and different labels. Whenever we go over here and tour, you need some tour support to get over here. You need a decent tour to not lose money. Maybe that's got something to do with it.
It probably does. You guys were last here four years ago. When you guys came over here where did you start out at?
Robert: Chicago. We've been here a week and a half.
Nicke: We're halfway through America. The plan was to have it around SXSW so that's pretty much in the middle of the tour, Texas. We wanted to play as much in those three weeks that we had to fill with shows. We just wanted to make as much as possible in those three weeks to get both the coasts. It's a big country so there are some cities that I wish we could have gone to.
You can always come back.
Nicke: Exactly.
I'm glad you guys decided to come to Dallas this time. You're almost as bad as the Backyard Babies guys. They came to see me last summer though.
Nicke: Haven't they been here tons of times lately?
I don't know. When I was talking to Nicke last summer, he said that they hadn't been to the States in years. He did promise to come back.
Nicke: I think they will. After the new record is out they probably will come over here again.
Their show is awesome. I really loved it.
Nicke: Did they play here?
No, they played at the Gypsy Tea Room. Tell me a little about your new record Rock & Roll Is Dead.
Nicke: It's not really new for us. It came out in June in Europe.
It came out in January here because we're retarded like that. How long did it take to do the record?
Nicke: Three weeks.
Robert: Two weeks of recording I think. Even less than the last record.
Nicke: Yeah, three weeks on and off.
Doing the mixing and mastering and all that. Who did you use to produce it?
Robert: A guy called Chips K. who is a friend of ours and he did the last two records before this one as well. He's great. We work together I think.
The record came out awesome. I really loved it especially those really cool guitar riffs. I was jamming all the way down here.
Nicke: Thank you. That's good to hear.
People were probably looking at me wondering what the hell was wrong with me.
Robert: Yeah, yeah. Personally, I'm really satisfied. I'm really happy with how the record turned out. Now it's out and I just hope that people buy it and like it of course.
It's got a lot of songs on here that are really fun songs. Like really upbeat fun songs. A lot of the music I listen to is black and death metal. This is cool to throw in every once in a while.
Robert: What kind of death metal are you listening to right now?
My favorite band right now is Children Of Bodom.
Robert: From Finland.
That's my favorite band right now. I like that real guitar oriented rock too. That's what I really love about this record. When you guys write what do you base your lyrics on?
Nicke: I don't know. In the end I guess it comes down to disappointment maybe. Stuff around you that's not so cool. That can make an interesting lyric. They mean something to me and hopefully they mean something to other people. I'm not a big fan of analyzing music.
He says "I just write the shit."
Nicke: Even when I listen to music, if I like it, I like it. That's good enough for me. There are always these people around that want to analyze it and maybe they should do that if they want.
Yeah, that's true. My favorite song on here is "Everything's On TV". I like that one.
Nicke: That's the one we did a single for. It's not out here as a single but in Europe. That's the first single.
And you guys have some videos on the actual CD.
Robert: Yeah, since I guess they don't get played on MTV over here. I don't think so anyway.
In between the game shows.
Nicke: Yeah, we did two videos for this. They don't get shown that much back home either but once in a while Swedish television and maybe in Germany and maybe in some other countries. Headbangers Ball maybe and shows like that show them maybe once in a while. I don't even know if you have Headbangers Ball here still.
Oh yeah, it's on MTV2.
Robert: I don't know if they show it but we have the videos on the CD so people can check them out.
Well on Headbangers Ball they show pretty much really heavy shit on it. I also get Fuse and Uranium and MuchMusic and VH1 so it may be on those. Where are you guys ending up at when the tour is done?
Nicke: L.A. is the last show in one and a half weeks from now.
What are you guys doing after this?
Nicke: Festivals in the summer in Europe. Tons of them.
I dream of going to the Wacken festival one day.
Robert: There are a few really nice festivals in Europe I think. There are some in Finland you should go to.
Yeah, there are shit loads in Finland.
Nicke: And get really drunk.
That's the best part.
Robert: We do pretty well over there so it's fun going to Finland. It's close too.
Where in Sweden are you guys from?
Nicke: Stockholm which is the capital of Sweden.
We're kind of bad on geography here so geography lessons are a must. What do you guys plan on doing after the festivals?
Nicke: I don't know. We never think that far ahead.
Robert: We maybe plan up to six months ahead at the most. Something like that. We'll do some festivals in June and July. We haven't planned more than that. We'll just wait and see. Nothing really more planned than that.
Any other thoughts or comments?
Robert: Come and see the show but I guess that's a bit late. Come and see us next time. Next time in Dallas.
